Spring Semester Conferences

Monday, February 15 is the scheduled spring semester conference day. If you have specific concerns and would like to meet with me please fill out this form and return it to school. (paper form in take home folders today) This will ensure that we cover all of your concerns and allow me to schedule a time that is convenient for you. Unfortunately I will miss the class Valentine breakfast on Feb. 11 because I'll be at the Texas Computer Educator's Association conference Feb. 10 - 12. Jill Gentry will be the substitute teacher. If your child is giving Valentines to classmates they need to bring them to school on Feb. 10.

The state of Texas provides all students in grades K-8 a subscription to Learning.com’s EasyTech program for technology education. The Brainy Bunch is fortunate to also have access to their math and science curriculum. Students are encouraged to use this resource at home.  Passwords will be sent home on Jan. 21.

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day will be celebrated with a special breakfast and exchange of Valentine cards. Other activities throughout the day will have a Valentine theme. Please have your child address his/her Valentine with first AND LAST names so we can use them for an alphabetization lesson. Valentines need to be sent to school on Feb. 10 so we will have time for the lesson before the party. A class list in the newsletter going home on Jan. 21.

100th Day of School

Plans are under way for second graders to celebrate the 100th Day of School on February 4. Activities planned for the 100th Day of School are intended to increase understanding of math concepts with a focus on place value. All students will make an “I Spy” style collage using 100 small objects. The collages will be used to make an interactive game using PowerPoint. There’s a link to last year’s I Spy project in the archives section of our web site at http://brainybunch.weebly.com/ We have been collecting small objects all year – but still need many more for the project to be successful. Examples of items we can use are: mini erasers, tiny craft items, old keys, buttons, gumball machine ...

The Brainy Bunch went to http://www.wordle.net/ and made a wordle with all the things we're thankful for. The larger words mean that more students were thankful for that particular thing. Try making a wordle with your family!
